The 993 was a particularly significant link in the 911's long chain of development. For one thing it was a far better car than the 964 it replaced. It also marked the end of an era that had begun forty-three years earlier with the 356, by being the last Porsche to be powered by an air-cooled engine. It was penned by Englishman Tony Hatter and was instantly recognisable by its heavily slanted ellipsoidal headlamps mounted low in the wings and the notably flared rear wheel arches. The latter were there for two reasons - to house the grippy Carrera Cup wheel/tyre package and to house the all new rear suspension. The long standing trailing arm set-up was no more, and in its place came a far more effective subframe-mounted multi-link arrangement. Other updates included more power for the 3.6-litre flat six powerplant (up from 250 to 272bhp) and a brand new six-speed manual gearbox. The newcomer was available as a two-door Coupe or Convertible and with two or four-wheel drive. The Carrera 4 version, renowned as a heavy understeerer in 964 guise, really came good in the 993 thanks to the replacement of the mechanical central differential with a viscous coupling.

The right-hand drive 993 on sale is a four-wheel drive Cabriolet. Manufactured in 1995, it features Dark Blue bodywork and hood teamed with a Dark Blue and Grey interior. It has apparently had three keepers to date and was acquired by the vendor from marque specialists Paragon of Five Ashes, East Sussex (who have serviced it regularly ever since) in January 2001. She currently regards the bodywork, paintwork and engine as "good" and the trim and the six-speed manual gearbox as "okay". 'N964 CPP' is taxed and MOT'd until the end of February next year.
