John Cooper was without doubt one of the worlds major players in race car design and his name has always been linked with success and innovation and his death earlier this year was a sad blow to the whole industry.
Cooper Cars only made a handful of two seaters and this particular example, which dates from 1955 is indeed one of those. Each car was made slightly differently and an example of one of them is featured on page forty six of Doug Nye's book 'Cooper Cars'. This particular example was raced in its period by Porteous but ten to fifteen years ago its new body was made, although it was only fitted to the chassis and fully restored some five years ago. The total renovation cost in excess of twenty thousand pounds and was done by Dowson Engineering and this is in fact very similar to LLV 1, which is the most famous of all the two-seaters and was John Bolsters road test car.
It is in superb condition throughout and is fitted with the XPAG four-cylinder M.G. TC engine and is a very rare car, which is ready for either road or track use and the lovely history file contains a copy of the Autosport article where John Bolster drives the Sports Cooper.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
