The management of B.S.A.. decided in 1957 that twin cyclinder machines were the future; to all intents and purposes this meant the end of the road for the immortal 'Goldie' however pressure from the all important U.S. dealers, who refused to take their full quota of twins unless they continued to deliver Gold Stars meant a reprieve of sorts. The Catalina was built solely for the American market and took its name as a result of a winning ride by Charles Minert at the 1956 Hundred Mile Catalina Island Grand Prix near Los Angeles. Imported into the U.K. during the early 1990's it was restored to a very high standard. Such was the quality of the restoration that when the vendor saw the machine it was love at first sight. Confirmation that the engine and frame numbers are original is provided by the Gold Star Owner's Club certificate which states that the machine left the Works on the 8th December 1959, further confirmation of the quality of this machine can be seen in the feature article in the February 1999 issue of 'The Classic Motor Cycle'.
