Lot details Registration No: DYH 136 Chassis No: 44205 Mot Expiry: None
From 1934, and in addition to their 1805cc Fifteen 6-cylinder model, the by now very British Daimler Motor Company Limited of Coventry offered their up-market clientele a choice of four sizes of Straight Eight, the first being the 3764cc V26 model built mostly in 142in wheelbase limo form 1934-35. With 4624cc eight fitted to the same chassis, the larger capacity wheelbase limo became the 4.5-litre model of which some 475 were made, ten being supplied to King George VI, four of them with radiators and bonnets from sister marque Lanchester. In addition, two further Daimler eight models were built for the owner-driver market, the 3421cc Light Straight 8 and the 3960cc 4-litre, both with sports saloon or cabriolet coachbuilt body options.
On offer here is a 1937-made 4.5-litre with Royal-spec limo coachwork by Hooper for restoration. Described by the vendor as a barn find, we understand that the stately Daimler, which is finished in black with black leather to the front with beige fabric to the rear, has been in the same collection since the 1960s. It has a sliding division to the rear compartment, which still has working blinds all round and period fittings such as a pair of occasional folding-seats intact. The front windscreen has the very period feature of folding outwards to let fresh air in to the driver's quarters. The 64,012 miles displayed when entered for this sale is believed to be the genuine mile total mileage from new.
