Donald Healey's early cars were built in Warwick from 1946 by his Donald Healey Motor Company, the Silverstone 2-seater sports becoming a popular choice for Britain's amateur weekend racers during the postwar period. It was in 1950 that the earlier Eliott-bodied coupes and roadsters by Westland were replaced by Tickford-coachbuilt sports saloons and convertibles from Abbot. By 1954 - before BMC started manufacturing Healey's 100 sportscar for him with Austin-Healey badging, initially as the 100/4 and later as the 100/6 and then the legendary 3000 - 222 of these closed and 77 open genuine Warwick Healeys had been produced. The car being auctioned today is a 1952-made Warwick rolling chassis with Tickford crafted closed bodywork.
The Cumbrian vendor tells us that this handsome sports saloon has provided him with most enjoyable transport to various classic car events. With 46,902 miles indicated on the odometer, it is in good running order and should have been freshly MOT-tested before the auction. The 2.4 litre, 4-cylinder, twin cam Riley motor is reportedly in very good, whilst bodywork, paint and interior are all said to be good too. Rare, characterful, Riley-powered and a Healey. Don't miss it.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
