Introduced towards the end of the sixties, the YDS6 can in many respects be viewed as the ultimate development of the first series of sporting Yamaha 250 twins, with its successor, the DS7, with its horizontally split crankcases and significantly revised styling, representing the start of the "RD" dynasty. Although, at first sight the DS6 appeared to differ little from its predecessor the YDS5 except in respect of the fuel tank shape, it benefited greatly from the company's racing efforts. The engine which delivered 30 bhp, shared its cases with the TD2 road racer and the model benefited from a new duplex frame which greatly enhanced the machines handling. Like its predecessor, the standard model was complimented by a "Street Scrambler" variant fitted with a pair of high mounted exhausts aimed at the American market.
This example was discovered in a barn in the United States and imported into the UK earlier this year. The engine turns over freely and has compression. Offered Vat and duty paid in the UK the vendor informs us that he will be happy to assist the purchaser in registering the machine in the UK.
