For much of its history, Moto Guzzi was Italy's largest motorcycle manufacturer, the marque created post-WW1 by two out of three surviving Air Corps members, Carlo Guzzi and Giorgio Parodi. After their friend Giovanni Ravelli had lost his life in a flying accident, the eagle symbol of the Flying Corps was adopted for their fledgling motorcycle firm's logo.
The partnership's first bike was a Guzzi-designed 500cc machine with horizontal single cylinder, a flat-single design retained and updated for many years of production road bikes. The most significant pre-WW2 Guzzi models were the 1928-launched GT luxury tourer and the Sport 15 of 1931, both finished in red, which became the Moto Guzzi trademark colour. The first production racer was the 1938 100mph Condor, while Dondolino and Gambalunga models followed, with Guzzis winning events at the highest level.
This 1952-built Falcon Sports, a 500cc capacity model, was imported in approximately 1980 and fully restored. The owner tells us that the 201 miles indicated is the genuine total mileage following restoration since when, we understand from the vendor, that the Italian classic has been hardly ridden, having been well preserved by having been exhibited at the Lakeland Motor Museum. As a result of being on display, the current overall cosmetic and mechanical condition of the cycle components as well as both engine and transmission are described by the collector owner as being good.
