The European market is awash with specialist customising companies who will take a good basic model and turn it into a head turning flying machine. Walter Treser, the former Audi rally team manager, did exactly that.
This 1986 example of the quattro is believed to have been converted when it was new and probably at an exorbitant cost. Modifications available were the turbocharged five cyclinder engine, lowered suspension, the addition of Bilstein shock absorbers, alloy wheels and a whole host of cosmetic bodywork alterations which transformed the look of the cars. The engine modifications included larger valves, a revised fuel injection system, polished exhaust and inlet ports and a different high-lift camshaft.
They were about £26000 when offered new and are naturally extremely rare especially with the leather Recaro interior, as this example has, and it also has a full documented history confirming the low mileage of 67000 miles.
This is an extremely fast saloon that we are informed drives extremely well and surely is a must for any serious Audi collector.
Please note: This car now has a full MOT until September 2001.
