According to mbdecoder.com, chassis WDB1260222A005297 was built on August 26^th 1983 to order number 0353721047. Finished in Classic White with Brazil Brown cloth upholstery, its specification included an electric sunroof, floor shift automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, electric windows and sun visors with vanity mirrors. First UK road registered as ‘4 HAS’ on February 13^th 1984, the Mercedes-Benz has worn its present ‘A164 MDD’ number plate for over twenty-seven years.

Recently forming part of a deceased estate much of the car’s history has been lost which is a pity because a look underneath reveals that (a) a small fortune has been spent on it mechanically and (b) few miles seem to have been covered since the work was completed. Indeed, a MOT history check shows that the 280SE has added a mere 1,000 miles to its odometer over the past thirteen years. As well as a replacement engine, the Mercedes-Benz is understood to have benefited from fresh shock absorbers, springs, ball joints and rubbers etc not to mention new grey lower panels, door rubbers, exhaust and rear bumper etc. The vendor informs us that the 280SE impressed the tester when issued with a MOT certificate on February 5^th 2020, the gentleman concerned being impressed with the underneath and the comparatively low CO and HC readings. Summed-up by the seller as ‘driving superbly with no rattles or squeaks’ and being ‘fabulous value for money’, he notes ‘the only real wear on the car is to the driver’s seat which really needs recovering’.
