Lot details Registration No: DGH876S Chassis No: 2K2785 Mot Expiry: Nov 2003
D J Sportscars of Harlow, Essex, was the first UK firm to create a replica kit for the AC Cobra 427 under the Dax name, the first bodyshells being produced in 1979, the chassis able to accommodate both Ford and Jaguar engines and axles. The designer of the original AC Ace chassis, John Tojeiro, joined the DJ board in 1985.
We hear from the Northern entrant of this very well executed Dax Cobra 427 replica that the donor vehicle was a Daimler, although the original Jaguar V12 motor was subsequently replaced by a period-correct Ford 427cu in side-oiler from an offshore power boat. This US V8, which was rebuilt by a specialist before being professionally installed in this car, is reportedly barely run-in, having only been driven 428 miles since conversion - the bills are included in the history file.
As you can see for yourself, this most authentic-looking Cobra rep, which certainly stands out with its black paint and black leather interior, is in truly exceptional condition. With rapid shifting taken care of by a 3-speed automatic transmission, it is also capable of enormously impressive acceleration as well as supremely effortless cruising. And, unusually with such cars in the UK, lucky occupants have the benefit of a factory hardtop. This is surely one of the best recreations of what has become one of the most desirable sports cars of all time.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle now has an MOT test and Road Fund Licence as stated above.
