The financial hard-pressed Graham-Paige organisation sought to redefine its position as a luxury car manufacturer in the marketplace during the mid-1930s. Its new ‘economy’ model was called the Crusader, a six-light sedan, which was launched in 1935 until it was dropped from production in 1937. This 1410kg sedan was fitted with a 3670cc side valve straight six, L-head Continental engine, which produced a solid 85hp at 3400rpm. But the Crusader was not killed off entirely as Graham Paige sold off the tooling and production rights to Datsun and the Crusader re-emerged in 1937 in Japan as the first car badged as a Nissan, the Model 70, which stayed in production well into the 1940s.
The car on offer today is a South African assembled right hand drive variant bearing an older, if somewhat aged renovation. It has recently been the subject of a recommissioning programme in which it has been extensively rewired and mechanical serviced to running condition and is a car that the new owner can enjoy ‘as is’ while undertaking running improvements. Now possessing an MOT certificate, registering this car in the U.K should be straightforward process. This Graham Paige is a handsome car offering the experience of solid pre-war motoring at highly accessible money.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
