  • One of the best examples we have seen

In the mid-1950s BMC decided that its whole model range was looking distinctly out of date and hired Italian stylist Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina to inject some much-needed brio into its products. Out went the frumpy bulbous look that had ruled the roost for a decade and in came the clean angular architecture that Farina had pioneered with his Lancia Florida show car in 1955 – one of the most influential car designs of all time which set the style for the Swinging Sixties. The 1959 Morris Oxford V was one of the first fruits of this sharp new look, rendering the rotund Oxford MO obsolete overnight. For 1961 it was subtly restyled as the Oxford VI with reduced tail fins, a slightly longer wheelbase and a wider track. Anti-roll bars on the front and rear suspension firmed up the road-holding, giving much improved stability and handling. The most important mechanical change, however, was that the B-Series engine was enlarged from 1,498cc to 1,622cc making the Oxford a genuine 80mph car for the first time.

This Farina Oxford was manufactured in 1971 and was registered new in the United Kingdom on the 8th of January 1971. Fitted with the 1622cc straight-four B-series engine with a four-speed manual transmission. The Morris was originally finished in green paintwork, however since has been changed to Old English white paintwork, with the interior upholstery still presented in its original white. Subject to a comprehensive restoration upon entering current ownership in 2012, the Morris has eight former keepers showing on HPI, with a recorded mileage of 26,967 miles (at time of consignment).

Upon purchase by the vendor, the Morris was provided a bare metal restoration with the bodywork renovation including wing repairs, lead loading, replacement outriggers, sills and front floors and rust treating, before ‘FYP 234J’ was repainted in 2016 in the Old English white as presented today. Subject to much work in 2020 as the restoration completed which comprised an engine overhaul that included new rings, main bearings, timing chain, oil pump and gaskets; new three-piece clutch; brake overhaul; new stainless steel exhaust; new suspension rubbers and rear leaf springs; four new tyres; both glass and door rubbers and an alternator conversion (although the original dynamo is present). Offered with history file which comprises the original drivers handbook, current V5C, an extensive collection of invoices relating to the restoration and photographs of the restoration. The Morris also has a spare set of keys, the original jack and a small quantity of spares.
