Lot details
Registration No: 250 JYJ
Chassis No: H353010711
Mot Expiry: June 2009

One of the best looking and most successful sports racers of all time, the Ferrari 250GTO has, thanks to the efforts of parent company FIAT's lawyers, officially been classified as a 'work of art'. With just thirty-six examples manufactured and an asking price of £15,000,000 upwards, they will forever be beyond the reach of mere mortals. However, given enough ingenuity most things are possible. Among the most convincing Ferrari 250GTO evocations that we have encountered, '250 JYJ' is described by the vendor as being in "A1 overall" condition. A well campaigned Datsun 240Z racer before entering the current ownership, the coupe has since been rendered unrecognsiable. Reportedly "reconfigured from the ground up to a very high standard", the look-a-like boasts an impressive specification that seems more circuit-biased than road-orientated.

Built by renowned Z-car specialist Dave Jarman Racing, its 3000cc straight-six engine features a baffled sump, lightweight but fully counterbalanced steel crankshaft, Carello conrods, forged pistons, special DJR cylinder head, triple throttle body injection and an Omex management system. Reputedly developing some 300bhp and 260lbft (approximately the same as a real 250 GTO), it is allied to a modified / adapted Skyline five-speed manual gearbox (complete with 'quick-shift' mechanism). Apparently capable of lapping Aintree in 1min 6sec and below, the two-seater's blistering performance is kept in check by a limited slip differential, four-wheel Brembo disc brakes and uprated camber / ride-height adjustable Bilstein suspension (incorporating stiffened front / rear anti-roll bars). While, concessions to safety include battery / ignition cut-off switches and a plumbed-in fire extinguisher system.

To make it not just wickedly fast but highly convincing, '250 JYJ' has been fitted with a period Nardi steering wheel, quilted transmission tunnel cover and original set of Veglia Boletti instruments / switches. Riding on polished alloy Borrani wire wheels, it also sports authentic Marchal / Carello lights. Summed up by the seller as "a seriously quick and well sorted car", this stunning 250 GTO Evocation is said to have been ushered into the midst of a Ferrari display at last year's Goodwood Revival. Eligible for historic class (free) road tax, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 2009.
