The Lagonda Rapier was a move by Lagonda into the market for high quality small cars and it was launched in 1934 and indeed was made by Lagonda for the first twelve months before being produced by Rapier Cars Ltd in Hammersmith from 1935 to 1937. It was designed by Timothy Ashcroft with a completely new 1104cc four-cylinder chain driven twin overhead camshaft engine with the pre-selector gearbox it had a top speed of seventy five miles per hour, with the four-seater body, which was slightly increased when fitted with the more rakish two seater coachwork.
This particular example, which dates from 1935, has been with its present private owner for the past thirty five years and was completely rebuilt between 1990 and 1995 by Mr. Tim Metcalf of Rossendale. The history file naturally has many bills and receipts for all the work carried out but the engine, which is not the original but period, was completely rebuilt as was the coachwork and the lovely mahogany back was fitted at the same time. It has the pre-selector gearbox which is lovely to operate for the driver and behind the rear seats there is a large space which is fully carpeted.
This wonderful example of the highly desirable Rapier is now simply waiting for the new owner to put is through its paces and we feel sure that it will deliver a huge 'grin factor'.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
