The 1990-launched Vauxhall Lotus Carlton was the fastest production saloon car that money could buy, a really Super Saloon that was capable of eating Porsches and Ferraris, even the 340bhp/167mph Audi RS6, for breakfast. This was GM's 377bhp/187mph answer to the increasingly steroidal Mercs and BMWs from the German Go-Faster industry.
GM's stylists gave the Carlton/Omega bodyshell a serious makeover with vents, skirts, front dam, rear spoiler and Ronal 17ins alloys. Underbonnet, the C360ET motor with 24-valves and twin charge-cooled turbos had been enlarged to 3615cc to reward worshippers not only with a mighty 377bhp at 5200rpm, but 419tbf.ft of extraordinary torque at 4200rpm. Also, far more relevant than the 187mph top speed potential to most of the fortunate owners of these projectiles was the ability to reach 60mph from a standstill in a rocket-launching 4.9secs!
We are therefore delighted to be able to offer this 1991-made example of the Vauxhall-badged, Lotus-sorted supercar, Number 36 in fact of the very limited edition and one of only 284 UK cars produced with RHD. The purposeful bodywork, painted green, and sumptuous green interior are described by the Midlands owner as being still good, whilst the 3.6-litre six and 6-speed manual box are reportedly both in good order too. The 98,901 miles indicated when entered for this sale are believed to be the genuine total mileage from new and the private/cherished registration currently on the car will be sold with it.
