Lot details
Registration No: AGO 295
Chassis No: S10309
Mot Expiry: April 2014

First registered on April 12th 1933, chassis S10309 began life in London (or so its 'AGO 295' number plate would imply). Bodied as a S.W24P four-door saloon by the factory, the 16/80 survived World War Two unscathed. Reputed to have belonged to a Mr Cook of London, W.R. Close of Scotts Garage, Wooler, John James of Chathill and J.C. Boylan of West Monksheaton thereafter, the Lagonda participated in the 1966 Newcastle Summer Exhibition and was displayed at the Melrose Motor Museum before entering the current ownership some twenty-five years ago. A highly capable engineer who has twice assisted the CERN project in Geneva, the vendor carried out some minor ash frame repairs and retrimmed the front seats but otherwise has done little cosmetic work to the saloon (the rest of its Green leather upholstery is deemed original). Now something of a 16/80 specialist, his attentions were instead focused on the car's mechanicals. Comprehensively overhauled and upgraded, the 2-litre straight-six OHV engine boasts a redesigned internal oil system, full flow filter, special oil control rocker shaft, new camshaft/valves/valvegear, modified inlet manifold, new Carrillo type steel con-rods and special JE domed pistons etc. The result is a freer breathing, higher revving powerplant that is estimated to develop 80bhp at the rear wheels. Further benefiting from the rejuvenation of its front/rear axles, clutch, gearbox, hubs, brake drums and hubs etc not to mention the installation of a steering damper and new 10/42 crownwheel and pinion, 'AGO 295' is believed to be the only S.W24P Saloon in frequent use. Featured extensively in chapter nine (and on the front cover of) 'Lagonda 2, 3 & 3½ Litre' by Arnold Davey, this is a very special and usable Post Vintage Thoroughbred.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until April 2014.
