The Firebird was produced as the successor to the Firefly and incorporated changes to keep abreast of developments. Built to the same high standards as its more expensive brethren, it was only current from August 1934 to December 1936 by which time some 450 had been made. A chassis modification allowed the installation of the then-new and now-legendary all-synchromesh gearbox, with power from a 1842cc OHV four-cylinder engine, propelling the model to a reputed capable top speed of 75mph.
Manufactured new in 1935 and dispatched on the 1st of February that year, chassis ‘12380’ was originally clothed in Holbrook Saloon coachwork, which the Alvis pleasingly still wears today. Finished in Black paintwork with interior upholstery trimmed in Brown leather upholstery, the Alvis was acquired into the current (late) ownership in 2014 to join his other Firebird, with the previous owner having acquired ‘BLP 160’ in 1987. Used regularly during the vendor's ownership up until the vendor sadly passed away in February this year and thus, chassis ‘12380’ has not seen use since.
Therefore offered requiring a degree of recommissioning, the Firebird boasts matching chassis and engine numbers. Offered with a current V5C document, Vintage Alvis maintenance manual, original owner’s handbook, and original spare parts catalogue, as well as being accompanied by two spare wheels. Benefitting from a new head gasket earlier this year, the Firebird is a very rare, elegant and usable Post Vintage motorcar, which pleasingly boasts its original coachwork, and matching chassis and engine numbers!
