The RAF war hero Air Vice-Marshall Don 'Pathfinder' Bennett founded Fairthorpe in 1954 and his first car was the rear engined Atom which used BSA parts, but found few buyers. The Electron arrived in 1956 and was a kit car with the 1100c.c. Coventry Climax FWA engine and about thirty were made. This was followed by the Electron Minor which had a two-seater sports body and used Standard Ten components and was the pre-cursor of the Austin Healey Sprite.
This particular example, which still has its original registration number, was first registered in December 1959. It was totally rebuilt from the chassis up recently and has been prepared for international classic rallying. It complies with FIA and FIVA regulations and comes with its own RAC MSA rally logbook and the history file contains a list of the extensive work that has been carried out to convert it to its present specification.
This is a rare and delightful car, which is offered by the private owner who presently lives in Spain, and we are sure this will get invited to a myriad of events in the near future.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
