Lot details Registration No: KNM 906 Chassis No: GL7647 Mot Expiry: June 2003
The largest Vauxhall in the mid-1930s was the 1934-36 made 25hp Big Six, which evolved into the Twenty Five in 1937 with slightly larger 3215cc engine, hydraulic brakes and torsion bar front suspension. The final Vauxhall to have a separate chassis had the same vee-shaped grille and steel wheels as the smaller Light Six, and was made in two wheelbases, 110 or 110in. Coachbuilders Grosvenor employed the long chassis Twenty Fives for their mostly limousines.
According to the Derbyshire entrant of this 1938-made Vauxhall, the Grosvenor limo was mothballed through the wartime years, only taking to the road again postwar in 1952. Along with three other similarly bodied limos, it was then put into service with the Sheriff of Luton Town. It was acquired by the current owner in 1995 from a family who had paid £17,500 for it in 1987.
The 4-speed gearbox has been rebuilt and is said to be very good. The 25hp 6-cylinder engine, also reportedly very good, has been modified to run satisfactorily on lead-free petrol. The distributor and radiator core have been renewed as have the tyres. Following a bare metal respray, the black and brown bodywork and beige trimmed interior are said to be very good. Documentation includes old log book, current MOT and duty-exempt tax disc. Whilst not warranted, the 48,270 miles displayed when entered is reckoned to be the genuine total mileage since new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
