Lot 28

Lot 28 - 1983 Ferrari 400i

1983 Ferrari 400i

Estimated at £10,000 - £12,000

Lot details
Registration No: A17 WMR
Chassis No: 46333
Mot Expiry: May 2005

The 400 was an updated version of the 365 GT4 2+2 fixed head Ferrari originally introduced in 1972. The idea was to appeal to both GT as well as luxury car buyers seeking high performance combined with spacious accommodation. It was hoped that many sales might have come from the US, though increasingly stringent vehicle regs prevented this.
The 400 first appeared at the 1976 Paris Motor Show, where the new 2+2 Ferrari was offered either with 5-speed manual gearbox or, for the first time in a Ferrari, with labour-saving 3-speed automatic. A total of just five hundred 400s with carb-fed 12-cylinder engines were made by hand before the fuel injection model came to market in 1979.
This 400i GT, a sporting two-door coupe offering extremely rapid and still luxurious accommodation for four, first left the Maranello works in 1983. Finished in the never likely to date silver with black leather interior, the Italian very `Grand' Tourer with a believed by the vendor to be genuine 53,400 miles on the clock (the total mileage being authenticated by paperwork provided with the car) has automatic transmission which is claimed to be good.
The 4823cc capacity twelve-cylinder motor is also said to be superb and the electrical equipment in good condition. Chassis steelwork is rated at being 100 per cent, whilst body panels, paintwork and interior are all reportedly in superb order. On file are not only the original service booklet but also ten previous MOT Test pass certificates, the current certificates not requiring renewal until next May. The owner tells us that much care and money has been lavished on this exotic Italian, which, he says, is quite simply "the best".
