Lot details Registration No: 7063 PG Chassis No: 407/6061 Mot Expiry: Nov 2002
The Bristol Aeroplane Company branched out into car manufacture in 1947 with an anglicized version of the pre-war two-litre BMW. Bristol Cars, which came into being as a separate company in 1960, is still manufacturing luxurious and fast cars and Tony Crook can still be found in the showroom in the centre of London.
The Bristol 407 was introduced in 1961, and during a production run of just over two years, 88 two door saloons were produced. This was the first of the Anglo American Bristol's with the 250bhp Chrysler engine which was married to a three-speed torque flight automatic transmission and it was good for 125mph. This example is in stunning condition throughout and although we very rarely give the title concours to any car, we are sure that this vehicle merits that description. It has been fully restored at a cost exceeding £40,000 and the massive history file confirms that it was fitted with air conditioning and is quite probably the best 407 in the world.
Bristol always had a massive following both in saloon cars and indeed in racing and we are sure that this example, which sports the cherished registration number 7063 PG, will have alloy bodied Bristol fanatics jumping up and down with glee.
