Sir John Black of Standard acquired the rights to use the Triumph name in 1944 and built the postwar Triumphs at his Canley works in Coventry. Black's first Triumph Roadster was the 1800 with 1776cc ohv 4-cylinder motor, of which 2501 were produced between 1946 and 1948, when the Standard Vanguard 2088cc-powered 2000 Roadster replacement arrived. A further 2000 of the larger-engined cars were made.
As you will see, this 1949-manufactured Triumph 2000 Roadster, which is finished in the believed to be original metallic green, has been restored to a very high standard by the late owner. During his ownership, the interior has been refurbished with new red leather, including retrimming the occasional rear seats, repolishing all the woodwork and the renewal of carpets and hood, the latter in dark green vinyl. All the instrumentation is correct and is as per the original spec, whilst a small chrome ashtray has been added under the ignition section.
Following what clearly has been an extensive rebuild, the current condition of the underside of this car and the detailing of the engine bay are particularly noteworthy. Nearly all the tools are still present, including the original pump and jack, and an age-correct battery fitted. A radiator mascot and driver's side spotlight complete the period spec. Since restoration, the car has only done 30 miles, so gentle running-in would be advisable before a successful bidder opens up this delightful roadster.
Please Note: We have not had this vehicle running due to a faulty fuel pump.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
