After racing car manufacturers GRD reached the end of the track, the GRD 375 was taken over by Ralph Firman who re-introduced the F3 design as the first Van Diemen for the 1976 season. Given VG375 identities, the first Van Diemens were essentially much the same, albeit ageing design, though fitted with much more aerodynamically efficient bodywork. After Jac Nelleman had been the only Van Diemen 376 driver to score top ten finishes during the season, happily for the marque's long-term viability, Firman then concentrated on making cars for the lesser single seater formulae.
The Van Diemen special offered here has been prepared for Multisport-Formula 1300 participation and, judging from the circa 1991/2 Ford CVH four-cylinder engine of 1300cc capacity fitted, reportedly in good order, the competition car is likely to be of approximately the same vintage. Four-speed manual gearbox and electrical equipment are also rated as good. Both chassis frame and bodywork are said to be in good condition and red paintwork fair.
Apart from being an ideal steed for taking part in Multisport-Formula 1300 racing, this well executed special-sports should give good service as a Speed Event, Hill Climb or Track Day car.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
