1998 Broomstick BS120

Estimated at £28,000 - £32,000

Lot details
Registration No: RFC 575
Chassis No: IV2518BW
Mot Expiry: Oct 2009

Broomstick Cars was established in 1972 and is well-known for the creation of these highly convincing Jaguar XK120 evocations which it began manufacturing in 1994. Thirty-six cars have been built to date, with two more currently in production. Based on and with the identity of a 1970 Daimler Sovereign Series I this early example, used first as the Works' show chassis, benefits from retaining its original 4235cc DOHC straight-six engine with all-synchromesh gearbox and overdrive on top gear, plus Powr-Lok limited-slip differential. It has covered just 6,700 miles since conversion, and has had just one registered UK owner.

BS120s are built on a box-section steel chassis similar to the original, with quality glassfibre bodywork. Aside from the fact that this cannot rust, it fits better than the originals, which were famously slightly longer on one side. With its louvered bonnet, authentic-looking four-spoke steering wheel and correct-type instruments, plus period heater, it certainly looks the part, enhanced by all correct fittings and a Le Mans-type fuel filler. There is full weather equipment - hood and sidescreens - which the vendor says is fiddly to erect - "just like the original".

He adds: "The car presents extremely well with an excellent finish to the paint. This BS120 has always been looked after well and mechanically is in fine shape. It starts first time and drives superbly, pulling strongly with no smoke. There are no untoward noises and it is a pleasure to drive. This is a stunning handbuilt recreation of an XK120, and not to be confused with a kit car. It is difficult to differentiate from the real thing and presents the beauty of the XK120 with the drivability and practicality of more modern mechanicals".
