Registration No: SUP355M
Chassis No: GHN5/297035-G
MOT: August 2021
A home market Roadster, ‘SUP 355M’ was the subject of an extensive restoration in 1997 that not only saw the two-seater stripped and reassembled using a new Heritage bodyshell but also refinished in its original livery of Bronze Yellow with Dark Blue vinyl upholstery. Self-evidently cherished over the past twenty-three years, the MG is said to be an ‘excellent driver’. Rating the 1.8 litre engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork as ‘excellent’, the vendor further informs us that the B benefits from a carpeted boot, hood cover, all tools and four new chrome wire wheels shod with fresh tyres. Coming from a good home, ‘SUP 355M’ is MOT tested until August 2021 and worthy of close inspection.
Model Background:
Introduced in 1962, the MGB Roadster enjoyed an eighteen-year production run. With nicely balanced handling and a good turn of speed, it merited the old MG marketing slogan 'Safety Fast'. Based around a monocoque chassis featuring independent coil-sprung front suspension and a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle, its 1798cc 'B' series four-cylinder engine was allied to four-speed manual transmission. Capable of over 100mph (especially if specified with overdrive), the provision of disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering greatly aided control. Arriving for the 1968 model year, the MK2 version was equipped with an alternator and heavier-duty, all-synchromesh gearbox (the latter necessitating a larger transmission tunnel).
