Lot details Registration No: DPU 16 Chassis No: 7799 Mot Expiry: N/A
This magnificent example of the Dennis 'Flying Pig' fire engine was first registered on April 27th 1936 and invoiced to J.W. Faulkner Esq., the Clerk to the Council at Loughton, to a specification agreed in September 1935 and at a price of £863 less an allowance of £20 for the old Morris tender.
History records that DPU 16 saw active service in the war years and was sold in 1948 for continued service with Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios Ltd at Elstree. It entered retirement, passing into preservation in 1970, and from 1978 was on loan to The Fire Service National Museum Trust and maintained by the Hitchin Fire brigade where it is believed at one time to have seen service.
The engine is superbly presented in gleaming red livery and it is equipped with a complement of ladders, hoses, nozzles and fire fighting equipment and chrome fire bell. An original Dennis Ace Instruction Book, old style buff log book and Swansea V5 registration document are offered with this vehicle which answers to the name 'Noddy'. It has been part of an extensive private collection for many years completing a couple of London to Brighton runs in that time and it is a very rare example being one of only three that are believed still to exist.
