Rarely does such a competition car arrive under the auctioneer's gavel with such a passport to premier International historic events as this giant-killing Ford Anglia. Originally professionally built to FIA specification in Belgium, from a one-owner road car, as a dual-purpose race and rally car, this rare LHD Anglia was bought into the UK especially with the inaugural Goodwood Motor Circuit Revival Meeting in mind. On arrival in the UK a total rebuild was carried out, carefully detailing the car to the high standard of period trim that hallmarks the Goodwood Revival as the most elite historic event in the world. Come the day, with the added kudos of representing the Ford Motor Company this revamped Anglia, in the capable hands of veteran racer Tony Dron, surged passed Lord March's awesome 7-litre Galaxie to record an incredible 6th place o/a in the St Mary's Trophy for Gp.2 saloon cars.
Subsequently, this effective little racer has posted class wins in H&Hs own Top Hat Historic Endurance Series and has been invited back to Goodwood on two more occasions. Offered in race-ready condition and as a bench mark in historic saloon car preparation, with full International FIA papers plus Belgian rally identity book, this 100% reliable racer looks forward to a very busy 2001 season, being eligible for the 3-race Top Hat series, FIA, HRSR/HSCC & CSCC championships plus the expectation of invitations to the forthcoming Silverstone International Historic Festival and, of course, Goodwood.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
