Lot details Registration No: R4 GTO Chassis No: JMAMJZ16AWY00270 Mot Expiry: April 09
Launched in 1992, the 3000GT was Mitsubishi's continent-crusher, a 155mph turbo missile drawn up to do battle with Japan's junior supercars, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, Mazda RX7 and Toyota Supra, though its natural rival should perhaps be the Porsche 928. Packed with technical features, it was powered by a twin turbo, twin intercooled, three-litre, double overhead camshaft, 24-valve V6 that produced 282bhp - and a solid 300lb ft of torque at just 3000rpm. All that meant it could scorch to 60mph in 5.6 seconds, though its top speed was electronically limited to 155mph. As well as the advanced engine there was full-time all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, active aerodynamics, whose spoilers advance as the car gathers speed, and electronically controlled suspension, giving razor-sharp steering responses that are mightily impressive for a heavy car. Inside, as well as all the electronic toys you could hope to find, there's cruise control and a colour VDU screen for the climate control. Projector type headlights replaced the pop-ups in 1995, a six-speed gearbox arrived in 1996 and in 1998, when this car was made, the list price was £45,800; up to that time only 580 had been sold in UK.
This 1998 example is a UK-supplied car rather than a later import, which has covered only 28,000 miles, warranted by its full Mitsubishi service history and is fitted with every conceivable extra including satellite navigation system, six-CD stacker, sunroof and electric seats. Its vendor describes this impressive performance coupe simply: "as new". The private plate 'R4 GTO' is included in the sale.
