Lot details

Registration No: LCL 994A
Chassis No: 83202*4672
MOT: Exempt

  • Believed to be one of 5 Flaminia 3B Coupes registered in the UK
  • Subject to works in current ownership with Omicron Classico totalling over £25,000
  • Offered in the UK in 1960 at £4,200 – compared to the average house price of £2950 and the Jaguar E-Type at under £2000

The Flaminia Coupé was introduced at the Turin Motor show in 1958, nearly two years after the saloon. The styling was based on the Aurelia Florida designed by Battista Pininfarina and considered by many to be his most influential design, it was also his personal favourite and he drove one for the rest of his life. Flaminias initially had a single 'carburetted' much modified version of the Aurelia all alloy V6, initially with drum brakes but disc brakes replaced the drums early on. Triple carburettors replaced the single in 1962 and the Flaminia became the Flaminia 3B, the power went from 119 to 130bhp, in 1963 the engine was enlarged to 2.8 and the power was raised to 136bhp. The suspension consists of unequal length double wishbones with coil springs at the front and a De Dion axle at the rear, based on the all-conquering D50, this combined with 50/50 weight distribution due to having the engine at the front and gearbox and differential (transaxle) at the rear, made for excellent handling with light and direct steering. In 1960 the PF Coupe was offered in the UK at £3,808 and with optional power windows, leather seats and carpets the total was c.£4200. Compared to the average house price at the time of £2950 and the new Jaguar E-Type at under £2,000, it is remarkable how undervalued this vehicle is today.

This particular example, originally manufactured in the colours it is presented in today, Bianco Saratoga with contrasting Pelle Nera interior, was first registered in Rome in 1963 and then moved to Sicily some 15 years later, where it remained in the long term ownership of the Chief of Police and had been stored for some time. The car was subsequently purchased and brought to the UK, where it was registered in January of 2017. It’s believed that there are only 5 of these cars registered in the UK, this presents a remarkable opportunity.

Boasting most of the factory optional extras including very rare electric windows and leather seats, ‘LCL 994A’ was purchased by its current owner in November 2018. Shortly after its purchase, the car was sent to Omicron Classico, where it received substantial work. In April 2019, the car was subject to replacement window, boot and door seals, work to the propshafts, front and rear anti-roll bar bushes replaced, brakes bled and further fettling at a cost of £5,265. In June, the gearbox was repaired, brakes overhauled, clutch replaced, starter motor overhauled and further fettling at £5,119. In August and September, engine was removed and overhauled. At this time, the engine bay was painted. The total cost of this work was £10,210. Following this in February 2020, a high torque starter motor was fitted, the plugs were replaced, points set, carburettor adjusted and overhauled at a cost of £2,005. In July, the interior was then re-upholstered at a cost of £2,280. Overall, the total cost of works in current ownership with Omicron have exceeded £25,000.

‘LCL 994A’ comes accompanied with a Certificato Di Origine, which confirms the car is a ‘matching numbers’ example. Also included are a large collection of previous invoices and MOT certificates from current and previous ownership. An English Flaminia workshop manual is also included, as well as some literature, and finally the UK V5C document.
