Lot 23 - 1921 Amilcar Type CC

1921 Amilcar Type CC

Sold for £10,125

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: Un-Reg
Chassis No: CC 318
Mot Expiry: None

Owing its name to the combination of the founders' names, Joseph Lamy and Emile Akar (although their first automobile was actually designed by one Edmond Moyet who worked for Citroen), Amilcar was the quintessential small French sportscar of the 1920s and, as with compatriot `Light Car' Salmson, the St Denis then Boulogne-sur-Seine based constructor diversified into the heavier touring car market during the 1930s. Having eventually passed into Hotchkiss ownership, however, and following factory closure in 1939, Amilcar never resumed production postwar.
This Amilcar, a 1921-dated and therefore from the first year of production two-seater sports with single door, has been imported from the vehicle kindly climate of the South of France. In fact, says the vendor, chassis number CC 318 is reckoned to be the third oldest Amilcar known to the marque club.
The vendor tells us that the chassis is in excellent shape as is the cream painted bodywork. The red interior is also very good apparently. The wire wheels and tyres are in very good order apparently, and there is a spare, whilst both four-cylinder 1000cc engine and three-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in very good order and the electrical equipment good.
As with all French-made Amilcars, the 1920s sports has UK-friendly right-hand drive and is capable of providing an owner with lively performance for its vintage as well as steering and braking which is surprisingly good. This car would also be eligible and ideal for participation in VSCC `Light Car' events as well as those organised by the Amilcar Register. Nimble and chic, too, and, being only the third made, truly historic.
PLEASE NOTE: We have not had this vehicle running.
