After AC had stopped making real AC sports cars in the Ace and Cobra tradition, CP Autokraft carried on making sports cars in a factory within the old Brooklands circuit estate. Run by Brian Angliss, Autokraft was the only firm licensed to use the Cobra name which were owned by the Ford Motor Company. Indeed, from 1987 to 1990, Autokraft was jointly owned by Ford and Angliss, who made the AC Cobra MkIV, employing the original jigs and the 4942cc 225bhp V8 from Ford of America. In the US, some MkIVs were converted by agents to accept the 7-litre Ford motor which, thus equipped, could match the performance of the original Shelby Cobra 427. AC was taken over again in 1996 by Pride Automotive, who offered Aces either with the 32-valve 4601cc or the older 16-valve 4942cc Ford V8 underbonnet.
The Surrey vendor of this AC Cobra tells us that her 1988-built, fuel-injected, 5-litre V8 powered MkIV sports is still completely original and is presented today just as it left the Autokraft factory. Originally shipped to Japan, the 2-seater had only been driven a total of 13,829 miles when entered for this sale. Currently carrying a cherished registration, we understand that by sale day the car will have been re-registered with registration appropriate for the year of manufacture. Painted green with beige interior, and reportedly in excellent condition throughout, Cobra MkIVs really don't come much better than this one.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
