After a lengthy gestation period, the now ubiquitous Porsche 911 entered production in 1964. The design was the work of Dr Ferry Porsche's eldest son, Ferdinand `Butzi' Porsche and the company's joint founder and chief body engineer Erwin Komenda. The car featured rack and pinion steering and both torsion bar suspension and disc brakes all round. It was initially powered by a dry-sump, air-cooled, 2-litre, flat-six engine, overhung at the rear and allied to a five-speed manual transmission. In 1968, the 911's wheelbase was increased by 57 mm, and the rear overhang reduced by the same amount. At the same time, some 22 lb was saved from the engine crankcase by manufacturing it in magnesium instead of aluminium - these changes greatly improved the car's handling. In 1969 the engine capacity was increased to 2.2-litres.

`FBY 425H' was manufactured in 1969 as a left-hand drive American export model 911T. According to the vendor, it was acquired by well known competitor and car dealer Sean Lockyear in 2004, who converted it into an historic rally car suitable for the British Championship. The majority of the work was apparently carried out by XS Racing and the Porsche is understood to have enjoyed a 100 per cent finish record in the series, as well as being one of the two most rapid 911s from 2005 to 2007. The engine and gearbox are said to have been built and maintained by Mike Bainbridge and, according to the vendor, are "state-of-the-art products, with the 2994cc twin-plug, carburetter-fed engine producing a reliable 275-plus bhp". Other Post Historic Class results include: 2nd overall, Killarney Rally 2007 and 1st overall, Kenmare Historic Rally.

MOT'd into January 2012, the Porsche comes with an extensive history file and, in the right hands, is expected to be a winner once more.
