Registration No: MV 2775
Chassis No: GBT52
MOT: Exempt
Launched in 1929, the Rolls-Royce 20/25 was powered by a 3669cc OHV straight-six engine allied to four-speed manual transmission. Usefully faster than its 20hp predecessor, the model remained in production until 1936 by which time some 3,827 had been sold. Capable of supporting a wide variety of coachwork, the 20/25hp's substantial ladder frame chassis was equipped with all-round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension, four-wheel drum brakes and a mechanical servo.
A notably elegant, Four-Light, D-Backed design, the coachwork that Park Ward crafted for chassis GBT52 featured occasional rear seats of a type more normally associated with partitioned cars. Supplied new to Geoffrey Walter James Winter Esq of No.2 Saville Row, London and South Hill, Norwood, the Rolls-Royce remained in his family until passing to Edward Manuel Magor Esq during 1936. Deriving their wealth from textile manufacture and tea plantations respectively, the Winter and Magour families boasted enviable connections to British and Indian society. Specified with stainless steel headlights (as per its build sheet), the 20/25 also sports an external sun visor, rear-mounted Brexton trunk (complete with fitted suitcases), sunroof and early type instruments. Treated to an engine overhaul encompassing a re-bore and new pistons etc in the not too distant past, the 20/25 was described as ‘A delightfully original, handsome and appealing car, in smart and sound condition, running well’ when The Real Car Company sold it to the vendor’s late husband during 2020. Presenting as an older restoration, assorted paint imperfections do little to lessen the visual impact of this handsome Rolls-Royce, while the past couple of years have seen the Brown leather upholstery undergo some sympathetic refurbishment. Rated by the seller as being in ‘good overall’ (bodywork, paintwork) or ‘very good overall’ (engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim) condition, ‘MV 2775’ is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, Town Cap and history file.
