From being a bookkeeper at pioneers Ceirano, who were bought out by FIAT in 1899, Vincenzo Lancia of Turin became chief test driver, winning his first race in Padua in 1900. He set up his own workshop in 1906. By 1969 however, the by then Carlo Pesenti owned firm had such massive debts that only a takeover by the Fiat empire could ensure the marque's survival.
Offered here is a 1982-built MonteCarlo, which first came from Rome to the UK around 2000 and, says the vendor, has been garage-stored ever since. Apart from the enhancement of Alquati manifolding and twin Weber 40DCNFs, the handsome Pininfarina-styled left hand drive mid-engined coupe is otherwise to standard specification. The car also has the original Pininfarina seats and a Momo leather steering wheel.
The fixed head body painted Giallo Modena is said to be in excellent condition and the grey interior very good. The 2-litre 4-cylinder twin cam motor is reportedly in very good order and 5-speed transmission and tyres excellent. The 27,000 miles displayed when entered is believed to be the genuine total from new.
