Lot details Registration No: 34 BGT Chassis No: W18701104088/52 Mot Expiry: None
Produced form 1951 to 1955 these typical immediate post-war cars from Mercedes Benz came with saloon, fixed head coupe, two-seater cabriolet and four-seater cabriolet coachwork. They all had the 2195cc six-cylinder engine and were indeed the original 220 with 170S styling, apart from the integrated headlights and the fixed bonnet sides. They were only available in the UK from 1953 and right hand drive versions are almost never seen and there were only 85 coupes made and the cabriolets are extremely rare indeed.
This delightful example, which is in its original left hand drive format started life as a coupe and was converted by specialists, who are detailed in the history file, to its present four seater cabriolet format. Alan Lock imported it from Germany in 1960 and that country's registration document is in the history file along with some other paperwork and it has only completed 87,000km, which is believed to be genuine from new.
It is described as being in good condition throughout and is extremely rare and sports the valuable cherished registration number 34 BGT, which of course would be almost better suited to an M.G.
Please note: The estimate on this vehicle has been altered to £8000 - £10000.
