The Birmingham Small Arms factory was established in the Small Heath area of Birmingham in 1861 and as the name suggests manufactured weapons. Around the turn of the century they started making bicycles and progressed onto motorcycles a few years later. BSA went on to be one of the world's largest producers of motorcycles up until its demise in the early 1970s.
This B31/B33 based pre '65 scrambler special has been part of an enthusiast private collection of mainly BSA off-road bikes for a number of years. It appears to be a c.1954 B31 swinging arm frame mated to a B33 bottom end with an all alloy top end breathing through an Amal 376/72 carb. The gearbox is stamped 'SCR' on the top surface it is fitted with a bespoke central oil tank and alloy mudguards. The bike has been stood unused for a number of years and the exhaust has gone missing along the way so will need a good recommissioning before use, but it will make an interesting project for someone to get it up and running again. Unfortunately there are no documents with the bike.
