The 1920's saw Triumph introduce chain drive to replace their very popular belt driven machines and expanding brakes. The famous Model 'H', which had performed such a sterling role during the Great War, began to be updated and this gradually saw the introduction of the chain drive, a three-speed gearbox of Triumph design and a multi plate clutch with a shock absorber mounted on an extension to the gearbox main shaft. This feature was called a spring drive and hence the name SD was adopted for the new 550cc model. This new machine was ideally suited for use with a sidecar and hence it became a very popular combination especially when fitted with Triumphs own 'Gloria' sidecar.
This particular example, complete with the Gloria sidecar, has been in a private collection for the last six years and for twenty years prior to that it was confined to the previous owners sitting room. It is described as being in lovely condition throughout and ready for the new season but although it will be looked over prior to arriving at the sale the new owner should ensure that mechanical and safety checks are carried out before it is used on the road.
It is beautifully finished in a combination of Black and Olive Green and the history file contains the original buff logbook. A rare and highly desirable bike!
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
