The great Fangio won the World Driver's title for Maserati in 1957 at the wheel of a 250F. The last of the founding Maserati brothers, Ettore, died in 1980 and, after Citroen engines had been used and Chrysler had become a shareholder, new owners De Tomaso sold out to Fiat in 1993, the Bologna firm now being part of the Fiat empire along with such other equally famous Italian marques as Alfa Romeo, Lancia and great rivals Ferrari.
The Bi-Turbo was first made in 1981 as an up-market sports-saloon employing a unitary-construction bodyshell. This attempt to broaden the market for one of the great names of Italian motoring history was equipped with MacPherson strut front suspension, independent rear suspension via coil-sprung trailing arms and disc brakes on all four wheels. A Bi-Turbo could be ordered with V6 or V8 motor of 2.0, 2.5, 2.8 or 3.2-litre capacity, and the option of both fixed head or open spyder bodywork.
Offered here is a 1988-built, righthand drive, 2.5-litre V6 powered spyder with 5-speed manual gearbox in the perfect colour combination of rosso red with cream leather interior, a full styling kit having been factory-fitted. The 20,300 miles indicated when entered for the sale is claimed to be the total mileage driven by the only one lady owner from new. Said to be perfect to drive, this sexy Italian has the benefit of full Maserati dealer service history.
Please Note: This vehicle now has an MOT until October 2003.
