For the first 40 years of their history, Alfa Romeo's were hand-built in relatively small numbers. Even Henry Ford was impressed: 'Every time I see an Alfa Romeo pass by, I raise my hat,' he enthused.
Alfa's credential as a motor sporting manufacturer has been well earned from almost continuous involvement in competition from 1911 until the present day, with the now Fiat-owned marque still a major player in Continental touring car events. Alfas used to compete in Grand Prix racing under their own name. Latterly, their engines powered F1 Brabhams as well as their own long distance sports racers and GTs.
The Alfa Romeo Sprint GT on offer here was manufactured in 1965. According to the entrant the coupe coachwork is in excellent shape, and the white paintwork and red trim very good. The 4-cylinder, twin cam 1572cc motor and 5-speed gearbox are both reportedly in excellent order. The 28,253 miles indicated on the odometer when entered for this sale are claimed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage of this car since new. Supplied with it are a large document file with receipts of work carried out over the years and the original green logbook.
Step-front GTs are highly rated by Alfisti, RHD UK-spec examples of the Sprint GT in this condition being particularly hard to find. Treasure hunters need look no further.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
