Lot details Registration No: EBW247B Chassis No: 4RIBF132537 Mot Expiry: March 2002
The Ford Falcon Sprint was introduced in 1963, with an updated and more square-edged body style and the four-speed manual gearbox, and they homologated the two door saloon with the same Holman & Moody 271bhp 4727cc V8 engine which powered the AC Cobra 289.
This particular example is indeed rather special and was imported from the USA in late 1990 and was fitted with a V8 engine to start with, albeit a 260 version. In 1984 it was bought by Charlie Smith, the well known rally preparation specialist, and he set about professionally sorting the car by lowering the suspension and rose jointing it and fitting 7x15" super light wheels with low profile tyres. He fitted anti-tramp bars and a five-speed Cosworth gearbox and re-trimmed the interior to make it look more English.
John acquired the car in early 1997 and had the engine rebuilt and fitted a Paxton supercharger as well as a full stainless steel, large bore, twin exhaust system. It comes with period bucket seats, the full harness, extra gauges underneath the dashboard, a period radio and some original Ford and Holmer Moody stickers. The all steel bodywork is in lovely condition and it has only completed 2500 miles since the engine rebuild and it is believed to have only completed 93,000 miles in total from new. John fitted a hidden towbar behind the bumper for the Goodwood Revival Meeting last year and it is a very mean and well sorted, fast but docile road car which turns heads wherever it goes. There is a huge history file with the car, including bills amounting to in excess of £10,000, and the dynomometer figures, which are quite outstanding and show, for a road car, that this is a pretty phenomenal example.
A wonderful piece of American motoring history.
PLEASE NOTE: The registration number of this car has changed from the one printed in the catalogue to EBW247B. Please also note that this car now has a new MOT until March 2002 and comes with a large history file.
