Sold for £7,088

Lot details
Registration No: XDF 517
Chassis No: AN512586
Mot Expiry: Dec 2004

This Austin-Healey, a Sprite MkI built by BMC in 1959, is unusually a 3-seater that, claims the vendor, was specially adapted to this configuration by Donald Healey's of Warwick and is therefore extremely rare. The extra seat provision has involved a factory-executed cut-out in the bodywork with attractive aluminium finishers at each side of a vinyl-covered, Dunlopillow-padded, rounded squab.
In current ownership, it has been extensively renovated, reportedly looking stunning in period-correct Old English White with red interior. To complement the well finished exterior, panels, paint and chrome, carpets, trim and seat covers have all been renewed. 'Frogeye' bonnet, in steel, and steering wheel are original, whilst all instruments have been refurbished and tyres renewed. Powered by tuned BMC A Type engine of 950cc capacity, the characterful little sportscar has both hood and hardtop, and comes with spare screen.
The history file is extensive and, apart from a host of receipts detailing restoration work carried out, also includes correspondence from Brian Healey, copies of the A-H Club magazine Rev Counter and Australian Sprite owners publication Marque One as well as several past MOTs and tax discs. The V5 confirms the Swansea registration XDF 517, whilst there are 12 months tax on the screen and 9 months MOT in stock. Also on file is HPI verification, reporting that there is no evidence of outstanding HP or major accident damage recorded. The owner says it drives as good as it looks.
