Introduced during 1973 as a replacement for the DS7, the new RD250 quickly found favour thanks to its excellent performance and handling. In looks the new machine followed the style of its predecessor with a classically shaped fuel tank, chromium plated mudguards and a sensible dualseat combining to give it a sophisticated image. An electric start, twelve volt electrics and an Yamaha's "Autolube" system, that removed the need to pre mix the petrol and engine oil ensured that the sophistication was not just visual, however, it was the machines performance that guaranteed its popularity. The revised power unit, which benefited from the adoption of reed valves, delivered a claimed 30bhp offering a level of performance that, but for the overall sophistication of the machine, placed it firmly in the "hooligan" category making it an object of lust for all 17 year olds.
This example was discovered in the States by the vendor, where it had been stored in a house for almost forty years. The original amber brown paintwork is described as being in excellent condition as is the brightwork and the machine, which displays only 1,056 is said to run perfectly. Offered Vat and duty paid in the UK it affords the enthusiast with a rare opportunity to acquire an unmolested, original example of this sought after model.
The vendor advises us that he will MOT the motorcycle free of charge should the purchaser wish and that he is happy to assist with its registration.
