Lot 11 - 1966 Volvo 122 S Rally Car

1966 Volvo 122 S Rally Car

Estimated at £8,000 - £9,000

Lot details
Registration No: BSW839D
Chassis No: 210887
Mot Expiry: Sept 2005

The basis of this historic rally Volvo was a 1966-built right-hand drive 122S which was prepared for road rather than special stage events in 1992 specifically for the 1993 Berlin-Monte Carlo Challenge. The four-door has successfully completed the 1996 Monte, two Le Jogs with awards and won several firsts and places on other rallies. The last outing was the RSAC 1000 Miles Trial with class win and team prize.
Structural work was carried out in 2001, there being a full photo-record on file, and further recommissioning in 2003. More recently, the car has been serviced and MOTd, the current certificate valid until next September. Receipts total £23,000!
The freshly rebuilt 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine has 1800 block with 2-litre big valve head gas-flowed by Gibbon, twin carbs, torquey K-cam, rare Volvo Team 4-into-2-into-1 manifold and runs on unleaded plus additives. The four-speed manual gearbox is standard, though with overdrive on fourth, and 4.56:1 rear axle. The springs fitted give ample ride height for back roads, though lower springs are available, shockers are Spax adjustable and standard steels are shod with new Colways.
Although no concours contender, it is painted red with white roof and has powder-coated, aluminium-effect bumpers with only minor cosmetic work outstanding. There are period spots, additional reversing lamp and wiring for a roof light. With dark red and black leatherette interior, the dash is very `works' with a full set of instruments, lights and accessories protected by internal fuse board, three map lights, drive cables to run both Halda Tripmaster and Speed pilot (units not included), compass and full harnesses. It has FIVA papers.
