  • Warranted 95,000 miles and rated by the vendor as 'one of the best original examples in the country'

H&H are indebted to the vendor for the following description:

‘This 1984 Volkswagen Golf Mk1 GTi Campaign Edition is a rare example of the early hot hatch and is an original numbers car which retains all its factory body panels and associated manufacturer’s paper labels. Introduced towards the end of the Mk1 GTi’s production around 1,000 ‘Campaign Edition’ models were produced for the UK and featured a number of unique touches including a four-light front grille with inner fog lights, matt black A-pillars and 14-inch Pirelli alloy wheels and centre caps. First registered on 10th February 1984, this example was acquired by the current owner in 2003 and has had seven previous keepers. It is powered by a 1.8 litre four-cylinder engine which drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The odometer displays 95,328 miles from new. It is presented in excellent original condition following recommissioning after many years in storage during which its mechanical components have been checked or replaced including brakes, battery, seals, fuel / water pipes etc. The Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system was overhauled with new injectors, fuel filter and a rebuilt injection warm-up regulator. The car has been fully checked, a new cam belt fitted, serviced and MOT’d by a classic car specialist in November 2021. The bodywork is in excellent condition, the panel gaps are flush and even and there are no dents to any of the car’s exterior surfaces. The original Silver paintwork is in good shape and there are very few chips, scratches or other blemishes to speak of. The stripes on the car’s flanks add an attractive contrast and all of its exterior trim is in good order. Its sunroof seal and door surround seals were also replaced as part of the recent refurbishment. The car rides on the original set of 14-inch Pirelli ‘P-Slot’ alloy wheels, which are pristine with the original centre caps and fitted with a new set of Pirelli P7 tyres. In the cabin, this classic Golf features its original trim and upholstery which is in very good condition. The seats are clad in black cloth with grey striped centre sections and black vinyl backs and sides. Presenting particularly well for their age, both the front seats and rear bench are free of any substantial marks, and there are no rips or tears to their coverings. The original steering wheel and dimpled ‘golf ball’ gear knob are also still in place and in good order. Entertainment is provided via an original Blaupunkt radio cassette player. All of the electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard. This modern classic hot hatch will be accompanied by its original owner’s manual and service book, two keys as well as a series of files containing an extensive set of receipts and invoices detailing its maintenance and restoration history along with old MOT certificates and photos. A period journal containing a road test of this actual car, VW Motoring September 1991, is included in the files. This VW Golf GTi Campaign Edition is an excellent example of the limited-edition hot hatch. Blending impressive pace with great practicality, this Golf GTi set the template for everyday performance cars that followed. In the vendor’s opinion, this car is one of the best original examples in the country and it would certainly make a fine addition to any hot hatch enthusiast’s garage’.
