  • Just 66,000 miles from new
  • Current ownership since 2008, with just five former keepers
  • Supplied new by Hatfields Jaguar of Sheffield and maintained by them until 2002
  • Offered with a large history file including the full book pack with well well-stamped service book
  • Desirable facelift model with four-litre DOHC straight-six engine and automatic transmission

Launched in September, 1975, as a replacement for the legendary E-Type, Jaguar's XJ-S (XJS from 1991) was an altogether more refined character. The excellence of its basic design was demonstrated by a 21-year production life. However, the original version could only cheat time for so long, and in 1991 parent company Ford thoroughly reworked the luxury grand tourer at a cost of £50 million. The facelifted XJS could be had in Coupé or Convertible guises and was powered by either a punchy four-litre straight-six or soporific 5.3-litre V12 engine. The former developed 223bhp and 283lb ft of torque and could ably power the newcomer to a refined and relaxing top speed of 140mph.

Elegantly finished in Diamond Blue with a Grey leather interior and Blue mohair power hood, this very well-preserved XJS impressively comes with history from new. Originally sold through Hatfields Jaguar of Sheffield on 1st August, 1993, they took care of its regular maintenance until 2002. Other evidence that the Jaguar was looked after from the earliest years of its life includes the run of MOT certificates, which extends all the way back to 1995. The original specification included lots of desirable features such as climate control, power windows, power mirrors, power seats, ABS, a trip computer, an adjustable steering column, remote central locking and a radio-CD player.

What is additionally impressive is the fact it has had only six owners across its 32-year life, and while all presumably looked after it well, the present owner has been especially sympathetic. He has owned the car since 2008 and has MOTed it annually, but only covered around 5,000 miles across 17 years, hence the present mileage stands at just over 66,000 miles. With such sparing use, we cannot imagine the Jaguar asked for much attention, but it has received some minor bodywork repairs, plus a reconditioned steering rack in 2019 and a new alternator in 2021. The original leather interior presents beautifully, just showing an appropriate light patina.

The history file is really remarkable, not least where service history is concerned. The original service book shows 18 stamps, but there are more recent service invoices on top of them. The service book, incidentally, is part of the ample book pack, which remains complete and attractively presented in its original leather wallet. The pack also includes the driver’s handbook, and the Parts and Service manual DVD. Few cars, even Jaguars, look as good as this one does at 32 years old. It is rare to find a car which has been looked after so well across so many years, so this XJS really is one for the discerning buyer, especially as a desirable facelift model.
