For many the ultimate ‘modern classic’, when it comes to Porsche’s iconic 911 sports car, it is the ‘Gen 2’ version of the 997-series which is deemed one of the most desirable model generations. Announced on the Porsche website in early June, 2008, the newcomer boasted revised DFI (direct fuel injection) engines that were stronger and more powerful than their predecessors plus recalibrated suspension, subtle styling tweaks, and the option of Porsche’s dual-clutch PDK transmission. Significantly smaller and lighter than its 991- and 992-series successors, the 997.2 also did without its feeling-sapping electric power steering. The Carrera 4 Cabriolet version was produced between 2009 and 2012, and offers open-top driving pleasure with a fully automatic fabric roof, while the Carrera 4’s all-wheel-drive system ensures confident handling in various conditions.

The standard 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet had a base price of £62,163 in 2010, but this outstanding individual car, which was first registered ‘MK10 FMP’ on 31st March, 2010, was specified with many desirable options which added thousands to its original price tag. Remarkably, it has had only one owner for the entirety of its 15-year life, and he has looked after it extremely well. A longstanding Porsche enthusiast, he bought it from Porsche Centre Wilmslow in Cheshire, part-exchanging his 2005 911 (997.1) coupé. The Vehicle Order Form shows that he knew exactly what he wanted – a Basalt Black Carrera 4 Cabriolet with a Black leather interior, the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) extended navigation module, the PCM telephone module, floor mats, two-stage heated seats, cruise control, the Sport Chrono Plus package, 19in Sport wheels, the PDK double-clutch transmission, the park-assist system and the VTS (Vehicle Tracking System).

Through the entire duration of his ownership, the vendor has covered only 21,000 miles in the 911 and had it scrupulously serviced by Porsche Centre Wilmslow. Servicing was carried out in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022, as evidenced by the six stamps which appear in both the Maintenance Record and the Record of Brake Fluid Change. The Record of Long-Life Guarantee Condition Report was also completed in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. The Porsche has been MOTed every year without ever incurring a failure, and the fact that it still retains every single certificate gives some indication of just how meticulous the owner has been. The most recent MOT, issued with no advisories, is valid until 31st March, 2026.

Recent invoices give an indication of the owner’s willingness to maintain the Porsche in the best operational condition. In 2022, for example, it was treated to a set of new Pirelli P Zero tyres, for a cost of £938. A new battery was fitted in March, 2024, for a cost of £150, and in September, 2024, various works were performed for a total of £3777, including the installation of new rear brake lines, a new air-conditioning pipe and new suspension brace bars.

Breaking down production figures reveals that a total of only 2,992 997.2 Carrera 4s were produced from 2008 to 2012 (not including the more common 4S), of which 1,244 were Cabriolets, with 2010 production reaching just 419 Cabriolets, so this is a far rarer car than many people realise. While there is, of course, always a choice of 911s on the market at any one time, we cannot imagine there are many 997s as well-preserved as this one. The vendor has seemingly kept every part of the car under very close scrutiny, because it all presents so well – the paint, wheels, interior and so on are in excellent condition and the invoices and MOT certificates offer some testimony as to its mechanical health.

In addition to the stack of invoices and MOTs which are included in the paperwork file, the Porsche is also offered with its original sales invoice and order form, and pleasingly retains its original book pack with owner’s manual, service handbook, dealer directory and so forth. Needless to say, the V5C is also present, showing zero former keepers. A low-mileage, original car like this is surely the stuff of dreams for any Porsche enthusiast or modern sports car collector, but it would be equally suited to the sort of discerning motorist who desires a well-kept, capable sports car to look after and bring out on special occasions, much like the vendor has done for the past 15 years.
