Introduced in 1960, the Dodge Dart began life as a 'full-size' model before morphing into a 'mid-size' car for 1962 and becoming a 'senior compact' the following season. Making the transition from separate chassis to unibody construction along the way, it gained a wider front track, more accommodating engine bay and improved steering gear as part of a substantial redesign ahead of the 1967 model year. A rival to the likes of the Ford Falcon, the Dart was among Chrysler's more successful 'A-body' derivatives. An elegant yet understated design save for the compound inverse curves of its rear window, the Dodge could be had in two- / four-door saloon, two-door hardtop and convertible guises. Powered by a choice of straight-six or V8 engines allied to manual or automatic transmission, the Dart underwent a minor facelift for the 1969 model year. Representing an intermediate trim level, the Custom variant accounted for some 63,700 Dodge Dart sales that year (41,600 six-cylinder vs. 22,100 V8 cars).

Leaving the Hamtramck Plant equipped with a 273ci (4.5litre) 190hp V8 engine, automatic transmission and power steering, this particular left-hand drive example was purchased by supplying dealer McCarty Motors of Savannah, Missouri from Chrysler in September 1968 for $2,741.25. Sold new to Mr Charles L. Maag on April 30th 1969, the Dart Custom was reacquired by McCarty Motors some twenty-five years later by which time its odometer showed 96,428 miles. Forming part of the dealership's private collection until May 23rd 2002 when it was bought by an employee, the two-door hardtop was imported to the UK by Mr Keith Sinclair Woodroyd a little over two years later. Treated to an engine overhaul by Dave Billadeau of Billadeau Speed & Automotive during June 2008 which included the following new components: oil pump, 318-type carburettor, water pump, Rollmaster double roller cam chain, lifters, pushrods, core plugs, camshaft / bearings, exhaust valves / guides / seals, pistons / rings and big end / main bearings, 'CYY 380G' is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork.
