Lot details Registration No: SV 8040 Chassis No: M936 Mot Expiry: Feb 2004
The14/40 M model was launched by Vauxhall in 1922 to run alongside the larger, well established D and E Type models. The 2.3-litre 40hp sidevalve engine and 3-speed gearbox, both of aluminium construction, were at the forefront of period design and featured Vauxhall's first detachable cylinder head and a single plate clutch. The resultant weight savings helped to support the maker's marketing slogan 'The Finest of Sporting Cars'.
Their robust build quality and mechanical reliability resulted in a large demand for these cars at home and overseas, notably in the Australian market - and this is where this particular example, equipped with the Princeton 5-seat tourer coachwork, was first sold in 1923.
Having returned to the UK in 1999, manufacturing details confirmation was obtained from Vauxhall's Heritage Department to go along with the Dating Certificate from the Veteran Car Club of Australia.
The barrel-sided tourer finished in polished aluminium with maroon wings gives the impression of a 'mini' 30/98. It also features a wing-mounted spare, running board mounted mahogany toolbox and a split/opening windscreen, and comes with copies of the owner's handbook, period Australian workshop manuals and 1924 Autocar care and maintenance feature plus history files.
This delightful and attractive 1920s motor car is in excellent running order and condition, and is an ideal car for taking part in any VSCC Rally. It comes with a Swansea V5 and current MOT certificate.
