The 1953 Nuffield Oxford taxi being auctioned here first came into the possession of the Staffordshire owner/driver entrant in 1983. He tells us that the Series III 3-door model was in poor condition and his five year refurbishment included replacement of some ash frame members, renewing the fabric roof panel, repainting the chassis, carrying out repairs to the wings, fitting new running boards, stripping the paint and having the coachwork professionally resprayed.
We understand that all the electrics were checked and starter motor, dynamo and battery renewed. The brightwork was rechromed and a new radiator core fitted. The engine was overhauled with new pistons and bearings, the cylinder head skimmed and valves reground. The interior benefited from replacement seat covers and trim material including the roof trim, whilst new tyres were fitted.
More recently, both gearbox and clutch have been overhauled, a period flag meter fitted and the characterful vehicle has been exhibited at the Liverpool Taxi Show on two occasions. Taxi!
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
