Honda introduced the final version of the NSR250 road machine in 1994. Typed the MC28 the new model was mechanically similar to the previous MC21 variant but introduced styling features derived from the contempoary NSR500 and NSR250 race bikes. There were however two significant changes to the previous models specification. A single sided "Pro-Arm" swinging arm similar to that employed by the RC30 and works endurance racers was employed. The other changed related to the engine management system with the introduction of "PGMIV". This system employed a smart card, theoreticlly allowing a series of cards with different maps for specific tracks or conditions to be used as required. Ironically, this "flexibility" resulted in the MC28 being the costliest NSR variant to derestrict!
Like its predecessor, the MC28 was offered in three different levels. The standard R variant was complimented by the SE and the SP. The SP was essentially an homologation special built in strictly limited numbers and equipped with fully adjustable suspension, magnesium wheels and a dry clutch. The colour scheme of the SP generally reflected that emplyed by the factory racing bikes. The SE shared a similar specification except for the wheels, which were the standard alloy wheels as fitted to the R variant rather than the expensive magnesium items used by the SP. Production continued until 1999, although the "R" had been dropped from the range during 1996.
This example of the "SE" variant dates from 1997 and has recorded only 1,700 kilometers during the last twelve years. It is described by the vendor as being in "as new" condition.
